Fracture Care

Broken bone (fracture) begins healing the moment the injury occurs. Putting the broken bone back together is key to ensuring a painless, functionally excellent outcome for the patient. The sooner the fixation occurs, the faster the patient can begin rehabilitation of their injury.

Nerve

There are three main types of nerve problems addressed by a hand surgeon. One is nerve injury, where a nerve has to be repaired or reconstructed. Two is a nerve compression, where a nerve has to be released, as in carpal tunnel syndrome. Three is when a nerve is non-functional and another one must be transferred in its place. All 3 types of problems require mastery of microsurgical techniques by the surgeon and must be executed flawlessly for the best outcome.

Tendon

Tendon injuries most commonly occur due to penetrating trauma. When a trauma occurs, a tendon must be repaired rapidly. The best time is immediately after injury. This is important, because a prompt repair ensures that proper rehabilitation can begin, enabling the patient to obtain their desired function. Rehabilitation is normally guided by a hand therapist and surgeon, ensuring that the patient obtains the best outcome. The key to this is time and delaying these repairs is detrimental to the patient's outcome.
